We are a small family run York Bed and Breakfast conveniently located directly on Fulford Road (A19). We are a five minute walk to the York Barbican and only a short walk to the city centre, which you can either take the city walk or the riverside walk, which we are more than happy to direct you to. We consider our location to be just perfect, as we are set a little back from the busy city centre but are within easy walking distance.
Our staff are all local to York and surrounding areas, meaning they have much knowledge and experience of the local areas. We provide a friendly and down to earth service, having great advice on where to visit and what you can do with your time in the city.
The B&B has 7 en-suite letting rooms, all come with their own private tea and coffee making facilities, free-view televisions, hairdryers and access to free WI-FI. Guests are invited to a self-service full continental Breakfast from 7.45am until 9.30am in our dining room. We want to ensure our guests leave for the day happy and full of energy to explore. You will be provided with your own keys, so you can come and go as you please, we try to be as unobtrusive as possible so that you can relax, though we are always on hand in case you should need any information or have any questions. We have a private car park located at the back of the building set away from the street, this can be limited and we cannot reserve spaces unfortunately.
The history of the building itself is a short but interesting one. The building itself was built around the 1870s as a manor house to a local developer by the name of Ambrose Walker, Ambrose played an important part in the development of Fulford Road into what you see today. Attached to the building itself is what seems to be the remains of an older building but in reality this is simply a façade, it was taken from the Theatre Royal when a new owner remodelled the Theatre. It formed an architectural feature for housing the old Manor house (The Saxon house) gardens. Sadly not much has remained as the façade was halved in order to build the modern flats that are seen when accessing the car park, which used to be the gardens.
